Form: INTRODUCTION TO EVENT

IT'S AS SIMPLE AS THIS:    It's about each club doing what's right for them
in supporting our effort to spread the 4-Way Test.

Your club chooses to sponsor 1 or 2 students into the District Speak-Off on 3/31/07.
Now, how will the students be selected?  You decide.  Here are some ideas:

1. Town or City-Wide Contest with schools judging and selecting:
Some clubs will get the information to the high school(s) superintendent (or English teacher or Speech
Club director or Interact Club) and allow them to perform the steps to select the schools top 1 or 2
(or several if you would like the "several" students to deliver their speeches at your Rotary club meeting
 in early March).     ( Form:
Email Letter to School Superintendent .  Other forms below)

2. Town or City-Wide Contest with
Rotary Club judging and selecting:
Some clubs will get the information to the students and have all student entries come back to the club
because the club chooses to perform all of the judging and selecting of the final 1 or 2.

3.
For Clubs that require a less demanding alternative for year 1:
i - Select 1, 2, 3 or more students by word of mouth recommendation to be considered for club
sponsorship (ex., John Smith of X Rotary Club says “I would like to nominate my nephew to speak to
our club on March 8th.  I understand the club will decide if he is deserving of entry into 3/31 event").
ii - Contact your local Interact Club, the director of the Speaking Club or English department in your
local school(s), or your local 4-H, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Youth groups...
iii - Distribute school announcement flyers to your club members to hand out (&/or directly to schools).
iv - Put an article, a call for speakers, in your local paper or local school paper.
at location tba (2007 organizer and host:  Warwick, RI).

Your process of selecting students starts fall 2007!
ALL grade 9-12 students are eligible.
